My name is Jim Chapin, and I am a Marketing professional based in Austin, Texas. When I encounter a challenge, I find a way to meet it, whether it encompasses new technology, software, or topic.
I began my career straight out of high school packing boxes on an assembly line. It didn't take me too long to figure out that this was not how I wanted to make a living. There was an opportunity to work on the shipping dock, and I quickly took it. Realizing that there was a great deal about shipping and receiving I didn't know, I went to school and earned certificates in Traffic Management and Distribution. Soon I was managing the department. Next was an opportunity in Production, so I self-studied and earned my APICS certification in Production and Inventory Control. I became a production planner. Positions in Cost Accounting, Sales, and Customer Service followed.
When a Product Manager position in the marketing department opened, I knew it was for me. It offered me a chance to grow and to stretch my creative muscles. The job required a college degree, so I went back to school, and I earned my B.A. in Business Management, graduating with both honors and distinction.
As a Product Manager, I found my niche. Frustrated with our advertising firm, I learned all I could about design and layout. Next came Photoshop and Illustrator. Then video editing and 3D Studio. I learned web design by developing the company website in my off-hours. Shortly after that, I left the company and started my marketing and design company with a strong emphasis on web development.
Throughout my career, I have served in marketing management positions for both large and small companies. I have worked as a Marketing Consultant and freelanced as both a designer and a photographer. I am equally comfortable working onsite or remotely. Having this broad knowledge and flexibility allows me to better communicate with creatives and with various company departments. I love having a skill set that enables me to exercise my creativity, especially to solve problems.
These days, my passion is music photography, and before the pandemic, you could find me in down in the pit at one of Austin's many music venues.
I'm always open to new creative collaborations, whether freelance design or marketing projects or full-time opportunities. Reach out, and I'll get right back with you.
